According to Dr. Robert O. Young, Chlorophyll helps the blood cells deliver oxygen throughout the body. In addition, it also reduces the binding of carcinogens to DNA in the liver and other organs.
Chlorophyll is most concentrated in leafy green vegetables, but all vegetables are nutrient-dense and provide almost all the vitamins, minerals, and micro-nutrients your body needs to be healthy and maintain a healthy weight.

Therefore, vegetables should be the main focus of your diet! Think about it, they are the lowest-calorie, lowest-sugar, one of the highest in water-content and the most nutrient-rich foods on earth. An easy way to start getting more of these life-giving foods into your diet is to eat a salad with every meal. Salad for breakfast you say? It is actually quite nice to start the day with a salad.
Another way is to do what I do most often - Drink a green shake every morning or as a meal replacement!

What is a green shake? A green shake is really the ultimate protein shake. Spinach and other greens are actually higher in the building blocks of protein (amino acids) than red meat! This one drink encompasses the four keys to a healthy diet, what Dr. Robert O. Young calls the COWS diet. Which stands for Chlorophyll, Oils (healthy ones), Water, and Salt, the four essential items the body needs to function.

So here is my recipe which I have developed over the years. There are others out there, but be careful many include high-sugar fruits like bananas and don't include the good oils like those found in avocados and coconut milk. Remember though, you are drinking this for your health! If it doesn't taste great, don't worry you can adjust the ingredients to your liking.

You should think of it like an tonic or an elixir. Remember Popeye and his spinach?
Put the following ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
Secrets-to-Health Miracle Elixir

Mix the following ingredients in a blender and blend on high until smooth:

  • 1 organic avocado 
  • 1 tablespoon of liquid Chlorophyll (I use World Organics 100mg)
  • 1-2 cups of organic baby spinach
  • 1/4 to 1/2 a cup of Coconut Milk (cold is best)
  • 1 tablespoon of powdered wheat grass (Amazing Grasses or Supergreens, an Innerlight Product)
  • A pinch of baking soda (Used to raise the PH of the drink and buffer acids) or pH Drops, available on-line
  • 8-16 oz. of water
  • 3 cubes of ice 
  • *Lemon or Lime Juice (about 1/2 of a lemon or lime)
  • *Stevia, a.k.a. Truvia Sweetener (If you don't need it don't use it. I would prefer you let your taste buds get used to the more subtle sweetness of the greens)
  • *You can also add the following items to taste: Parsley, Kale, or Cucumber (I suggest getting used to the flavor of the basic shake, than add these as you like)
  • *Also for a nice nutty flavor just add Raw Almond Butter (about 1-2 tablespoons)

*Optional Ingredients

Try my recipe. It includes all the necessary ingredients that promote health, but please feel free to experiment and change it to your tastes. If you find that this is not for you then I highly recommend eating a salad with every meal.

The best way to ensure that your body gets all the nutrients it needs and to supply it with the ingredients to make healthy blood is to do both. Drink the shake every morning and eat a salad with every meal. Your body will thank you for it!"
